TCAM Community blog about life experiences in a Biblical context.
Is sleep your friend? It hasn't always been mine. Several years ago after my heart surgery I went for what felt like days on end with no sleep. Anxiety became my constant companion. That is until one night I decided instead of counting sheep I would just go through the alphabet thinking of words that described the Lord. It wasn't long before my heart would be calm and my mind full of the peace that comes from a heart stayed on Him.
How can you fret and worry when you are reminded that He is Able, He is the Author and Finisher of my faith, He is the Ancient of Days, He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, He is the Bread of Life, Mighty Counselor, Creator, Compassionate, He is my Deliverer, He is Eternal God Who loves me with an Everlasting Love, He is Faithful, He is my Friend, my Fortress, He is Full of Grace, Generous, the Good Shepherd that guides my every step, the Great I AM, the Holy One, Immanuel-God with Us, Immutable, Jehovah, He is Just, He Justified me, He is the King of Kings, Full of All Knowledge, Lord of Lords, Lamb of God slain before the foundation of the world, Mighty God, Master of All Creation, Full of Mercy, Never Changing, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent, Patient, and Pure, He does not plan that it doesn't come to pass, He is my place of Quiet Rest, My Redeemer, He Rescued me, He is my Refuge, my Savior, The Truth, Unmovable, Unshakable, He is the Vine and I am the branch, He is the Word, Worthy, the Wise One, Out of Zion, in perfect beauty, God shines.
Talk about waking up with a different mindset! He will turn your sleeplessness into praising. Sometimes we wear our sleeplessness like some type of badge of honor. Like if we don't lose sleep over our circumstances there is something wrong with us. But I dare you to take this challenge. Next time you wake up with a million and one things on your mind, turn your thoughts to the One who Knows you. Remind yourself of the One Who Holds you in His hand. He is so worthy of your thoughts and praise. Let Him give you rest. You will be amazed at the difference it will make.
Psa 127:2 ESV - It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.
I have used this so many times!!
